The island of Langkawi, located off the northwest coast of Malaysia, is a picturesque place with a green tropical forest, sandy beaches, azure sea, everything for a great holiday. And in order for tourists to enjoy all this beauty even better, at an altitude of 700 meters above the gorge between the Gunung Mountains, a high and unusual Sky Bridge (Langkawi Sky Bridge) was built, which goes into the heavens, from which a fabulous view of the island opens.

The Langkawi Sky Bridge was built in 2004 and has been open to the public since 2005 and is the tallest single-support bridge in the world. The entire bridge really rests on just one high, metal support. The weight of the bridge is distributed over 8 cables attached to this single support. That is, it is actually suspended over an abyss and on windy days it is most noticeably felt.

Although the bridge does not seem to be very reliable, safety came first in the design of the bridge, so you don’t have to worry that something will break down and the bridge will fall, it is very thought out and completely safe for people. Even in bad weather, escape routes are provided on the Langkawi Sky Bridge to keep people safe from lightning. Also on the upper level are double steel railings, wire mesh and wood flooring below the parapet.

The bridge is 125 meters long and 1.8 meters wide and connects the two peaks of the Gunung Mountains. Along the edges of the bridge there are triangular platforms, like stops, where you can stop and admire a wonderful view of the island, the Andaman Sea and neighboring islands from a larger area and give your feet a rest. Since the bridge is curved, you can admire the delightful landscapes from different angles. (more…)
