Salzkammergut is a very picturesque lake region in Austria, located at the junction of three states: Upper Austria, Salzburg and Styria. It is known primarily for its lakes, which are abundant here: clean, deep, mountainous, some almost icy, surrounded by small villages, historic medieval towns and snow-capped peaks.
The Hallstatt community is especially famous in these parts. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its ancient salt rut and its “postcard” views of the Alps.
Salzkammergut Attractions, Austria
The main attractions of Salzkammergut are lakes. You can swim in them in summer and enjoy the views in winter. In total, there are 24 lakes in the district, of which 19 are suitable for swimming.
